Empowering Voices, Building Peace

Youth and women are disproportionately affected by conflict and exclusion from governance, yet they possess immense potential to drive peace and positive change. Empowered with the right knowledge and tools, they become transformative agents in preventing violence, fostering unity, and promoting accountability in society.

The Bakhita Initiative (JDPC Sokoto), in partnership with Caritas Nigeria, recently organized a one-day training for youth and women on conflict mitigation and democratic participation in Gagi District, Sokoto South LGA, Sokoto State. This training convened approximately 100 participants from across the district, creating a safe space for learning and dialogue on key issues:

• Understanding local conflict causes and peaceful resolution strategies
• The roles of youth and women in conflict mitigation and resolution
• Promoting inclusive participation in democratic processes
• Fostering tolerance, civic responsibility, and community leadership

This initiative strengthens the capacity of youth and women to contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding and inclusive governance, ensuring their voices are central to community development.

Together, we are promoting peace, justice, and robust democratic systems—one empowered voice at a time.
