Emergency Food Assistance to IDPs Resident in Sokoto

The Bakhita Initiative (JDPC Sokoto) in Partnership with Irish Aid the department of Riatas na hEireann Government of Ireland carried out a two-day intervention “Emergency Food Assistance to IDPs Resident in Sokoto State” as part of its efforts in cushioning the hardships faced by residents forced to flee or leave their homes due to armed conflicts and flooding.

 Internally Displaced Persons camps visited were Ramin Kura and Kofar Marke both under Sokoto South and Sokoto-North local Government areas of Sokoto state. the intervention focused on Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities.

Activities carried out by the organization included medical outreach and distribution of treated mosquito nets and free malaria diagnosis and treatment, food and Non-food items such as; rice, beans, vegetable oil, tomato paste, detergent, sleeping mats, blankets, washing to a total of  five thousand beneficiaries. while educational materials of exercise books, pens, and pencils were given to all school-age children within the camps.

This activity was successfully executed with the assistance and collaboration from Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency, Doctors of the Nigerian Medical Association Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto Chapter, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria Sokoto chapter and National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto Chapter.
