Empowering Communities Through Tsangaya Education: A Step Towards Inclusion
What comes to your mind when you hear the word Tsangaya? For many, it represents a traditional system of Islamic learning, deeply embedded in culture and faith. However, beyond its religious significance, the Tsangaya system faces challenges that call for urgent attention—limited access to formal education, poor learning conditions, and the need for greater inclusivity.Earlier today, The Bakhita Initiative -JDPC Sokoto in partnership with Save The Child Initiative under Plan International Nigeria EU-INTPA project, conducted a one-day step-down training on the Tsangaya system of education. The training brought together key stakeholders, including women leaders, Mallams, Malamas, Youth leaders, Persons with disabilities, Almajiri students, and the Chief Imam of Achida community, Wurno LGA, Sokoto. This engagement aimed to strengthen understanding of Tsangaya education, promote inclusive learning, and explore ways to integrate essential skills that empower students beyond religious studies. By equipping communities with knowledge, we take a step closer to a system that nurtures both spiritual and academic growth.Today’s discussion was just the beginning—together, we can build a future where every child, regardless of background, has access to quality education. #InclusiveEducation #TsangayaReform #CommunityEngagement
